A Day at the Seaside

"A Day at the Seaside" is a contemplative work that forms part of the series Thirty-Six Views of the Everyday, inspired by Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. However, rather than focusing on a single visual subject, the series proposes thirty-six views of an ordinary day, where any element can become the catalyst for the artist’s attention. A solitary figure wanders through a windswept shoreline, collecting fragments of the landscape as though following an invisible thread. Neither pilgrim nor wanderer, but something in between, the figure moves with quiet attentiveness, transforming ordinary gestures into acts of reflection. Their presence becomes a point of passage between the visible world and an inner terrain shaped by memory, perception, and silence. Filmed on a smartphone, the image remains close to the texture of the world, where sand, water, and dry vegetation mirror an inner landscape. The performance is restrained and understated, allowing presence to emerge without emphasis. The poem Certe Mattine is recited in French and Italian by François Labiétrie, accompanied by a metaphysical score by Valerio Pascucci. Sound and image move together, tracing a passage from tension to release. Rather than telling a story, the work opens a space of perception where identity softens and only presence remains.
