As It Is

As It Is unfolds like a quiet visual meditation, inspired by the structure of a medieval altarpiece. The images are filmed on a smartphone in Piazza San Marco in Venice, a city marked by mass tourism and a fading sense of community. Here, people are seen without judgment. It is what it is. Each figure becomes part of something larger, whether they are aware of it or not. The work is guided by a poem, recited in Italian and French by François Labitrie, with music by Valerio Pascucci composed for this piece. The poem moves quietly through the images, like an inner voice that echoes what is seen without explaining it. People appear and disappear, like the figures we encounter in life, or perhaps like the masks we wear.
